The transformation of this riverside deck was a major undertaking, starting with a structure that had suffered extensive water damage and deterioration. The deck’s substructure was exposed to years of moisture infiltration, leading to severe wood rot and instability. Before applying any new materials, we had to completely remove the damaged wood, ensuring a stable foundation for the renovation.
Once the deck was stripped down, we addressed the compromised framing by reinforcing and replacing critical structural components. Insulation and a protective moisture barrier were added to prevent future issues, providing a strong, weather-resistant base. With the framework secure, new plywood sheathing was installed, creating a smooth and reliable surface for the upcoming Duradek application.
Applying the Duradek vinyl membrane required precision to ensure full waterproofing. The surface was carefully prepared, and a specialized adhesive was evenly spread to guarantee a strong bond between the vinyl and the plywood. Each sheet of Duradek was carefully positioned, rolled out, and heat-welded at the seams to form a completely watertight seal. Edge flashing was installed to reinforce high-exposure areas, adding an extra layer of protection against moisture intrusion.
As the finishing touches came together, the deck took on a brand-new appearance. The modern Duradek finish blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings, providing a durable, slip-resistant surface designed to withstand heavy rain and seasonal changes. Not only did the homeowners gain a beautiful new deck, but they also secured a long-term waterproofing solution that will preserve their outdoor space for years to come.
