Living on the water in Oregon presents unique challenges, especially when it comes to protecting outdoor spaces from constant exposure to moisture. The dampness in this region seems to creep in from every direction—through the air, the soil, and, of course, the rain that so often falls. This was certainly the case for the deck we worked on, where years of exposure had taken their toll. Although we didn’t include ‘before’ pictures, it’s clear what was being covered up beneath the surface. As we began prepping to replace the old decking material, we uncovered significant amounts of hidden water damage that had accumulated over time.
The extent of the damage was striking, with rotting wood and compromised structural elements that had quietly deteriorated beneath the surface. While the deck might have looked passable to the untrained eye, the underlying issues were much more serious. Removing the old surface revealed the full impact of years of moisture seeping into the deck’s foundation. This kind of damage is all too common in waterfront homes, where the damp environment accelerates wear and tear if the deck isn’t properly waterproofed. Fortunately, we were able to address these issues and take the necessary steps to ensure that the space would be more resilient moving forward.
The real transformation can be seen in the ‘during and after’ photos, which capture the story much better than words ever could. From the exposed damage to the final installation of a new, durable waterproof surface, the progress is undeniable. By the time we were done, the deck was not only restored but fortified against the elements like never before. Now, this beautiful space is far more protected from the harsh environmental conditions of the Oregon coast, offering the homeowners a long-lasting and reliable outdoor area they can enjoy with peace of mind for many years to come.
