The first step in the process was removing the old deck surface, which had started to crack and fade. This part was relatively straightforward since the existing structure was in good shape, which meant we didn’t need to perform any major structural repairs. After carefully stripping away the old asphalt, we prepared the deck for the next stage—installing a new substrate. This would provide a clean, stable base for the Duradek surface to adhere to, ensuring long-lasting durability.
One of the key aspects of this project was that the existing fascia-mounted railing didn’t need to be removed. The railing was still in excellent condition, securely in place, and did not interfere with our work on the deck surface. This saved both time and resources, allowing us to focus entirely on removing the old surface, preparing the substrate, and applying the new Duradek material. Working around the fascia-mounted railing made the entire process smoother, as we didn’t have to worry about dismantling or reinstalling any railing components, which can often add complexity and time to a project. The benefit of leaving the railing intact meant that we had clear access to the surface, making the installation more efficient. Not having to navigate around removed railings or open edges allowed us to focus on ensuring the new waterproof surface was applied seamlessly. By maintaining the existing structure, we were able to keep the deck’s design intact, delivering a refreshed, modern look while preserving the homeowners’ original aesthetic and saving them time and cost in the process.
Once the new substrate was laid, it was time to install the Duradek. As always, Duradek provided a seamless, waterproof finish that not only enhances the look of the deck but also offers superior protection against the elements. With the project complete, the deck now not only looked brand new but was better equipped to handle the harsh weather over the years. Best of all, it perfectly complemented the stunning view of Mt. Hood, making the space even more enjoyable for the homeowners.
